A: Yes. Spanish is not a course that is recommended for 9th grade students; however, each student has different goals and interests in which we discuss and take into account when making that selection. A few points to consider before choosing Spanish as a 9th grader:
- Priority will be given to upperclassmen
- With a block schedule students have ample opportunity to take all 4 levels of Spanish
- Most Universities prefer to see foreign language later in the student's high school career so that it is fresh at the time of college entrance
- Any other foreign language is offered through NCVPS (as of right now) and online courses are not recommended for 9th grade students. Online course priority is given to upperclassmen --- believe us when we say you will thank us for this when your student is a Junior and trying to fit a level 3 foreign language in with AP courses.
